The EU-funded AtLAST design study started in March 2021 and will end in August 2024. The goal is to obtain a full feasibility study and telescope design that can take into account the technical, operational, environmental, and managerial challenges of such new international infrastructure, at the same time ensuring that it can achieve the ambitious transformational science goals identified by the astronomical community.
The design study project is organised into six work packages (WPs).
