Congratulations to four key contributors to the AtLAST project for successfully defending their PhDs in 2024! Their valuable inputs to the Science and Energy Work Packages demonstrate their dedication and expertise in their respective fields.
2024
Over the last couple of years, the science working groups have been refining the key science drivers for AtLAST that set the requirements for the telescope design, its instrumentation and the operations plan.
We wrap up the “AtLAST Design Study: results, science, and next steps” conference, held at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz from 21 to 24 May 2024 with something of a melancholic feeling but also with excitement about the future.
Last December, two workshops led by the AtLAST sustainability team served as a forum to discuss relevant topics for the astronomical community: a path toward sustainable telescope operations.
