WP6 will provide an updated telescope sensitivity calculator that takes into account the types of instruments being developed in WP2 so that science users can better constrain their science cases as the project continues.
WP6.1 - Sensitivity Calculator upgrades based on instrumentation work being done in WP2
The AtLAST sensitivity calculator allows astronomers to estimate how much on source time is required to reach the required sensitivity of their science case. Quick estimates can be made using the web version shown on the left. The underlying source code is open source and available on Github, shown on the right. Downloading this also allows the user to integrate the calculator into other Python codes or Jupyter notebooks, enabling deeper exploration of different observing set-ups for developing their science cases. In WP6, we are working with those instrument teams to expand the calculator, incorporating their instrument parameters into the code. This improves the accuracy of the calculator for the benefit of the science teams in WP1. Credit: M. Booth, P. Klaassen.
