Academic interests

My research field is the Process System Engineering with focus on sustainability and design of systems through optimization tools. My main academic interests range from modelling individual systems, such as industrial and water networks, energy systems, among others, to complex networks where more than one system is studied along with their interactions. Moreover, I am interested in the application of machine learning techniques in the formulation of optimization problems to automatize this process.
As a part of AtLAST project, I am working on the design of a renewable energy system to supply electricity to the telescope during its operation. In addition, I am participating in the site selection of the telescope, studying the meteorological characteristic of different sites in the Chajnantor Plateau, in Chile.

Background

I did my PhD studies in the area of process system engineering, where I specialized in the area of industrial process design and optimization with focus on sustainability and security issues. During my PhD project, I worked on the design of an economic environmental and resilience material network, where these aspects were considered as objective functions of the problem. In the addition to this, I proposed a resilience indicator for material networks, which I had the opportunity to work with the “Laboratoire de Génie Chimique” from Toulouse, France.
On the other hand, I participated in a project about the development of a waste management network for solid residues in the Metropolitan Region, Chile, considering the reduction of greenhouse gases emissions and the prioritization of the existing treatment alternatives. Also, I worked on a project related to compare conventional and electric buses of the Metropolitan Region, Chile, where I specifically worked on the modelling and simulation of the existing power plants in the country, measuring its environmental impact through process simulation tools.
Currently, I am working at the University of Oslo on the AtLAST project, where I am participating in the design of a renewable energy system for the operation of the telescope.
